So Now
What? (Expatriating Part 3)

Recently, I announced I'll be moving to another country
on July 18, 2011. In case you have not yet read the über-suspenseful
first and second parts to this story, don't read any further
here! Click your way out of here and over to Part
One before I spoil the surprise!
Okay, now for the rest of you
Since making this announcement, I've had a few questions.
My fiancée, Kattina, has this spiffy new teaching
job, but what about me? What will I be doing once we move?
What does this mean for my writing? My public speaking?
The classes I teach and the tours I guide?
I am thrilled to announce that effective July 20, I will
my new life as a pathetic deadbeat, scarfing down chili
crab and slurping away pint after pint of Tiger beer in
glorious, tropical sunshine.
Oh, wait. No. I'm getting married. I might need to consider
Plan B.
Plan B is this:
I'll still be guiding tours in Europe for Rick Steves.
Due to my looming marriage and overseas move, I'll have
a more limited tour schedule this year than usual, but
I've got two Scandinavia tours in June, and a "Best
of Europe" tour or two in the fall.
My own Globejotter
Writing Adventures for journalers and aspiring
freelance travel writers are on hiatus for the rest
of 2011 while I get settled in my new home, but I hope
to resume them in 2012 with the same Vietnam
and Botswana itineraries I offered in 2010, as well
as exciting new destinations. In the meantime, I'm still
offering private trips, with or without the travel writing
lessons, for groups of six or more. If you're interested,
drop me an
e-mail and we can talk about possible dates
and itineraries.(And to find out about new trips as
soon as I announce them, please subscribe
to my e-mail list.)
I obviously won't be teaching Seattle-area writing
classes, but I'm putting together a new series of online
writing classes. I can teach them from anywhere.
You can take them from anywhere. I'm kicking things
off with a six-week humor writing workshop starting
March 15. In the coming year, I plan to add travel journaling,
travel tale writing, and advanced humor writing, as
well as editing workshops to help writers fine-tune
and improve their work in any genre. I chose humor writing
as the first class to offer online because I received
several e-mails asking me to do so
so if any of
these other classes excite you, or if there are other
online classes you'd like me to offer, please let me
know! I'll prioritize whatever is most popular.
I'll still be available as a writing coach for a wide
range of genres via e-mail, phone, and Skype.
(Or in person if you want to come to Singapore.) I also
plan to look into local teaching and speaking opportunities
once I get settled.
Keynote speeches? Writers conferences? I'm still
available, and happy to travel back to the States
or elsewhere. If you have a budget to get me there,
e-mail me,
and let's talk!
My next six months are looking exciting and completely
insane. Among other things, my this website, davethefox.com,
celebrates its 10th anniversary soon on April Fools'
Day. It's been a goofy 10 years online, and an even goofier
15 years in Seattle. I'll miss Seattle
and I'm excited
to land in my new home. To those of you who have been following
my work in the Seattle area over the last 10+ years, please
keep in touch! And to those of you elsewhere in the world,
I'll still be as easy to reach as I've always been. Yay
technology!
Now, if you'll excuse me, in the next five months, I have
a wedding to plan, a condo and a car to sell, a shipping
container to pack, two Scandinavian tours to guide, classes
to teach, Guinness to slurp on St. Patrick's Day
and
sometime between now and July 18, I'm hoping to squeeze
in a short nap.
