How to Eat
Oslo, Norway: June 8, 2000

I am sitting at a pub by the banks of Oslofjord at the moment, watching
a Norwegian man dissect a hamburger with a knife and fork. As hard as
I strive to be culturally sensitive when I travel, I find this troubling.
Part of me wants to throw his utensils in the fjord and show him the proper
way to eat American food, but that somehow seems uncouth.
